cookie recipe: Thumbprints - from Mrs. Hamilton's 9th grade cooking class
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/4 c. brown sugar
- 1 egg, separated
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. flour
- 1/4 c. finely chopped nuts
- jelly or frosting
- Mix shortening, sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla.
- Sift together flour and salt; add to shortening mixture; mix well.
- Roll into balls -- 1 tsp. per ball.
- Beat egg white slightly with a fork.
- Dip balls in egg white; roll in nuts.
- Bake at 350º for 10-12 minutes.
- Cool; fill with jelly or frosting.

- 1 c. powdered sugar
- 1-2 tbsp. milk
- Mix together.
