cookie recipe: Thumbprints - from Mrs. Hamilton's 9th grade cooking class
  1. Mix shortening, sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla.
  2. Sift together flour and salt; add to shortening mixture; mix well.
  3. Roll into balls -- 1 tsp. per ball.
  4. Beat egg white slightly with a fork.
  5. Dip balls in egg white; roll in nuts.
  6. Bake at 350º for 10-12 minutes.
  7. Cool; fill with jelly or frosting.
